Atom Red Hawks notch two more wins!
Submitted By bstora on Monday, December 14, 2015
The Boston Pizza HL Atom Red girls scooped up two wins this weekend, putting themselves back into the hunt in the standings.

After losing to them 2-0 last weekend at the BMC, the Orillia Atom Red Hawks hosted the Barrie Red Sharks this past Saturday at Brian Orser.  Down a player in the lineup, the Hawks fought an end to end battle with Barrie for almost two periods.  Both Sarah Madden and Claire Kudar had early chances, but it was a pass from Jordan McGlynn to a streaking Randi Forgarty that opened the scoring.  Fogarty fired a shot just inside the blue line at 4:20 in the 2nd period to put the Hawks up a goal.

In the 3rd, Barrie pressed hard, testing the might of the Hawks' defensive line.  Goalie Sydney Stora stood tall, stopping the circling Sharks.  The Hawks held on for the win, with Mari Gogarty and Megan Szalay having multiple scoring chances.  Player of the Game went to Jordan McGlynn for her gritty work on the blue line.

On Monday night, the Hawks headed to Barrie to face off against the Barrie Black Sharks.  It was Barrie who drew first blood, getting one past Stora at 2:48 in the 1st.  The lead was short-lived however, as Fogarty stormed in and tied it up with less than a minute to go in the frame.

In the 2nd, it was another end to end fight that tested both goalies.  Fogarty scored her second of game at 5:11 to put the Hawks up 2-1 off a sweet pass from Claire Kudar.  Several Hawks rushes saw scoring chances from Nicole Mavor and Grace Bogie who both fought hard to keep the puck deep in Barrie territory.

The 3rd period saw the Sharks swarming for the equalizer.  Julia Fyfe and Brooklyn Angliss led their defence lines in some excellent back-checking - being tested often.  Despite pulling their goalie and some great scoring chances, the Sharks' luck eventually ran out.  As the final seconds ticked down, call-up Alyssa Kanold lifted one into the empty net at the horn - putting the Hawks up 3-1 for the final score.  Player of the Game honours went to Claire Kudar who tied with Kanold tallying 4 shots on goal a piece.

With the two wins, the Hawks improve their record to 4-4-1.  Good job, Girls!
