  1. Risk and Safety

Team managers work with the OGHA's Risk & Safety Coordinator to ensure all required forms, certifications and training is completed, and submitted to the appropriate office. For more information, contact [email protected]

Police Records Check.  The OGHA requires that all head coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, managers (and others as recommended) be subject to a Police Records Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector. Your local police service checks national and local police databases and the existence of criminal convictions and outstanding charges, as well as incidents of all notable police contacts for at least the previous five years are considered for release.

Speak Out / Respect in Sport.  All team officials (including but not limited to head coaches, assistant coaches, managers and trainers) within the jurisdiction of the OWHA are required to be certified in the Speak Out programme, or Respect In Sport Activity Leader course: https://owha.respectgroupinc.com/secure/.  Den Mothers and parents are recommended to take the Respect in Sport Parent Program: https://owhaparent.respectgroupinc.com/secure/

Dressing Room Supervision.  OGHA teams adhere to the Ontario Women's Hockey Association's Dressing Room Supervision Policy found in Section B of the OWHA Handbook.  When any player under the age of 19 is in the team dressing room (before, during and after games and practices), two team or club/association officials, properly screened or one such official and an adult person, 18 years or older, associated with the team shall be in the dressing room or immediately outside with the door ajar.  For OGHA's purposes, den mothers (properly screened) shall be considered team officials.
