New Midget Programming Options Coming to Orillia Girls Hockey Association!
Submitted By Executive on Wed 03 04, 20
The Orillia Girls Hockey Association is committed to keeping as many girls on the ice and part of the Hawks family for as long as possible. To achieve this, we are very excited to announce for the upcoming season we will be piloting new program for Midget players who would still like to play competitive hockey but need to balance other priorities – school, employment and other athletic commitments.
In 2020/21 the Orillia Girls Minor Hockey Association will continue to ice two competitive teams at the Midget level each with a different commitment and focus; an Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) Midget BB team and a Lower Lakes Female Hockey League (LLFHL) Midget BB/B team.
The OWHA team will have limited practices and compete in several tournaments throughout the year. The team will not play the 22 game regular season or participate playoffs through Lower Lakes. The team will be eligible for Provincial play downs.
The LLFHL team will run as all our other representative teams do. Catgorization of the LLFHL team will be based on the regular process of coach direction, pre-season exhibition games and an early bird tournament.
Our Midget Local League team(s) will remain status quo.
Please see below for a comparison between the Midget teams.

We are hopeful this pilot program will also provide a pathway to ice an Orillia Hawks Intermediate A/BB team starting in 2021/22 for those players who have aged out of our current programs and still wish to play.
The OGHA is looking forward to these exciting plans and supporting the growth of the organization and the success of our Hawks on and off the ice.
