Submitted By Executive on Wed 04 12, 17
For the first time in the Orillia Hawks history .... The Orillia Hawks Tyron Construction Atom B team has brought home
the GOLD and the coveted "White Hats" from the
Ontario Women's Hockey Association 2017 Provincial Championship weekend!

The girls capped off a very successful season with an undefeated run through the Provincial Championships.
They entered the tournament with a small squad and missing players. A routine 2-0 win vs North York in their first game was followed by 1-1 struggle against a strong team from Nepean. The round-robin was capped off with 3-2 victory over Wilmot. A late goal against relegated the girls to second place on goal differential. Fortunately they qualified directly for the quarter-finals against Ancaster. A rough, competitive game ensued with Orillia scoring an early goal and grinding out a 1-0 victory. In the semi-finals the top team awaited from Woolwich. The girls played their best game to date. Only a late lone goal made the score look close as Orillia moved into the finals with a 3-1 victory. In the finals Belleville awaited. The only team Orillia had not beaten this year. Belleville had won our own Orillia Hawks tournament beating Orillia in the tournament final. Redemption awaited for Orillia in the Gold Medal Final. A late goal by Belleville in the last minute made it look tight. Orillia skated away with a 2-1 victory and the gold medal.
Team members are: (forwards)Karley Eckstein, Molly Hazel, Alyssa Kanold, Anica Plue, Sedonna Recollet, Victoria Sawyer, Megan Szalay, and Sierra Tryon; (defense) Sarah Fagan, Amelia Foley, Julia Fyfe, and Sofia Kring. The LAG (Little Awesome Goalie) MacKenna Carpenter, posted a brilliant 0.83 goals per game average, allowing only two goals the entire medal round.
